The Indian Academy of Shooting Sport, Guntur 18 Sep 2016:
                                                               Vinita Bhardwaj

Vinita Bhardwaj gave an impressive performance to win gold in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event at the 6th World University Shooting Championship in Bydgoszcz, Poland, edging out Rio Olympic bronze medallist Yi Siling of China. Siling is also the 2012 London Olympic gold medalist.
The BA final year student of DAV College, Chandigarh shot a score of 206.0 in the final to claim the gold medal while Siling shooting a score of 205.6 took the bronze.
However, twenty-two-year-old, Vinita’s journey to success has not been without it’s share of trials and tribulations.
Daughter of an Army officer, Vinita decided to take up shooting in the year 2008. However, she was rejected by the “Mission Olympics” a training program for the Army kids, on medical grounds for she had physical deformity — club foot — by birth. Medical experts said she suffered from 40 per cent disability.
Notwithstanding rejection, she decided to train on her own and started competing in various shooting competitions.
Vinita also participated in the World University Games in 2013 held at Kazan (Russia)
